A Day of Art and Creativity at the Central Asian Museum

The Central Asian Museum, Leh, hosted a full-day painting workshop led by French artist Roman Kames, who has been visiting Ladakh for over two decades and has developed a deep appreciation for its landscapes, culture, and artistic traditions.

The workshop welcomed two batches of students from Islamia Public High School, offering them an opportunity to spend the day exploring the museum and expressing their creativity through art. Working on handmade Poshok paper, the students painted Ladakh’s distinctive landscapes, drawing inspiration from the region’s mountains, valleys, and unique natural beauty.

Through this hands-on experience, the students were encouraged to observe their surroundings closely, experiment with colours and techniques, and develop their own artistic interpretations of the landscape. The use of handmade paper also introduced them to the tactile qualities of traditional materials and the importance of engaging with different artistic mediums.

The workshop transformed the museum into a lively space for learning, creativity, and cultural exchange. Beyond its role as a repository of Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage, the Central Asian Museum continues to create opportunities for young people to engage with art, discover their creative potential, and develop a deeper connection with the region’s cultural and natural environment.
